Which spirals do we use?
In principle, we insert all types of IUDs (intrauterine devices).
Hormone-containing preparations are our most popular products, as they offer high reliability with few side effects.
Hormone-containing IUDs are made of soft plastic and reduce menstrual bleeding, which is also perceived as very pleasant.
Hormone-free alternatives (copper IUD, copper ball and copper chain)
are popular with women who want to avoid hormones completely.
However, these products increase menstrual bleeding and offer a less safe method of contraception.
We are cautious about inserting copper balls and copper chains because these products have led to an increased number of complications in recent years.
We will decide together during the consultation which preparation is suitable for you personally.
How long can spirals remain in place?
Small hormonal coil – 3 years
Medium hormone coil – 5 years
large spiral – 8 years
Cu-IUP – 3-5 years
Why do you need a preliminary consultation?
We attach great importance to providing detailed information in order to find the right product for you.
Not every woman is suitable for an IUD, and we also provide information about alternatives.
What does the preliminary consultation & examination involve?
First, the advantages and disadvantages of the IUD are discussed.
Your uterus will then be measured (by ultrasound) to determine the correct size of the IUD.
If you decide to have an IUD inserted, you will be given our information sheet and a prescription to take home with you so that you can take your time to decide whether you want this insertion.
Costs for the initial contact incl.
Consultation and examination: 58 euros.
Is the insertion of the IUD really painless?
We use a pain gel (Instillagel®) specially developed for this procedure.
This anaesthetizes the pain receptors in the uterine wall so that the insertion is perceived as largely pain-free.
However, every patient has a different perception of pain, which is why we prefer to speak of a low-pain insertion.
How is the IUD inserted?
After our consultation, you will receive an information sheet and a prescription for your IUD.
You make an appointment for insertion; this should be at the end of your period.
The procedure takes place in a gynecological examination chair.
After the anesthetic has been administered, the IUD is inserted into the uterus.
The position of the IUD is then checked using ultrasound to ensure that it is correctly positioned in the uterus.
You will then have enough time to recover after the procedure.
We will only discharge you when you are really well.
You are welcome to bring someone with you to accompany you home.
Can I make an appointment online?
You are welcome to book an appointment with us online for the preliminary consultation.
Simply select the “General examination” section and write ” IUD consultation” under “Note”.
An appointment for an inlay should be made with us on site.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to make an inlay without a preliminary consultation.
What does the insertion of an IUD cost?
Preliminary consultation including ultrasound: 58.00 euros (GOÄ 1,7,410).
Insertion of the IUD including pain gel: 199.00 euros + material costs of the IUD.
We can order all types of spirals from our wholesaler at a good price.
Just ask us during your consultation.
Are the costs covered by health insurance?
As we are a private practice, we settle the costs with you personally.
Private patients are reimbursed for the majority of the services provided.
If you have statutory health insurance, ask your health insurance company and ask them to cover the costs.
You then submit our invoice to your health insurance company.
Costs incurred in our practice must be paid directly on site by EC card.
