Adenomyosis Munich

What is adenomyosis?

Adenomyosis is a benign change in the uterus. The
uterine lining, which normally only lines the inside of the uterus
, grows into the muscle wall of the uterus.
This can cause the uterus to thicken and enlarge, which is often associated with
pain and heavier periods.

What complaints can occur?

Not all women with adenomyosis have symptoms. When symptoms do occur,
they can vary in severity. Common signs are

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding
  • Painful periods (often heavier than before)
  • Feeling of pressure or fullness in the lower abdomen
  • Abdominal pain even outside of menstruation
  • Problems getting pregnant in some cases

Blood loss can also lead to exhaustion or iron deficiency.

Why does adenomyosis develop?

The exact causes are not yet fully known. Possible factors
are

  • Hormonal changes (e.g. in the years before the menopause)
  • Injuries to the uterus, for example after childbirth, a caesarean section
    or a scraping
  • Inflammatory processes in the uterus

Adenomyosis often occurs in women between the ages of 35 and 50, sometimes also
together with endometriosis.

How is the diagnosis made?

The doctor may suspect adenomyosis due to:

  • Discussion about the complaints (anamnesis)
  • Ultrasound examination of the uterus
  • In some cases magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

Treatment methods

How can adenomyosis be treated?

The treatment depends on the age, the symptoms and the desire to have children. There are various possibilities:

1. medication:
– hormone treatments (e.g. progestogen preparations or a hormone coil)
can soothe the mucous membrane and reduce bleeding.
– painkillers help to relieve menstrual pain.

2. high frequency therapy
In our practice we are breaking new ground in the treatment of adenomyosis. Our combination of nutrient therapy and radiofrequency therapy shows very good results in the treatment of ademomyosis. This therapy is a sensible alternative to conventional medicine. Let us advise you on this.
Costs per session between 49.00 and 89.00 euros (costs covered by private health insurance)

What is the prognosis?

Adenomyosis is not malignant and can be well controlled with the right treatment. After the menopause, the symptoms usually improve on their own because hormone production decreases.
